Pumpkin Genius

For the past few years, we've been carving a small "family" of pumpkins for Halloween. I'd carve a "daddy" pumpkin, Nicole would carve a "Mommy" pumpkin, and we'd both contribute to a "baby" pumpkin. This year, we wanted to include Haley, so Nicole did something that I think was pretty special. Nicole cut out a pumpkin shape out of orange construction paper and cut out multiple options for the eyes, nose, and mouth. Then we sat Haley down and told her to make her own pumpkin. Whatever combination she put together, we would cut for her on the actual pumpkin.

Haley wasn't satisfied with the choices she was given, so she made some inventive changes of her own. Picture in your mind the typical one-tooth jack-o-lantern smile. Nicole had made a construction paper version as one of the mouth options. Haley removes the nose and mouth from her paper jack-o-lantern. She then takes this mouth and rips the two corners off and uses just the center section with the tooth as the mouth. Then she takes one of the ripped side pieces and turns it upside-down for the nose. Genius! The result is the small pumpkin above. I'll let you guess which of the remaining pumpkins is Nicole's and which is mine.
