General Update Oct 09
Just a quick update on how the girls are doing in general.
We've really rounded a corner with Zoe recently. She is wearing "big girl" underwear every day now and using the potty. We're still having accidents, but overall she is almost fully potty trained. This is HUGE for us. We're one step closer to a diaper-free house! Excuse me while Nicole and I do a little dance to celebrate.

Ok, we're back.
Zoe has also reached the point where she is not taking regular naps. Nicole and I disagree somewhat on this point, but I'm of the opinion that she sleeps better at night when she doesn't take a nap in the middle of the day. In any event, we can no longer count on having the hour or two in the middle of the day to be "toddler-free" to get housework and chores done.
Zoe continues to love preschool and is only too excited to show everyone the paintings she does in art class. Nicole is very good about hanging them on the wall as soon as Zoe brings them home.
Haley is also doing very well in school. Her class has been split into reading groups based on skill level, and Haley is in the top group. Her handwriting and math are also improving at an impressive rate, and we try to encourage growth in all these areas whenever we can. There is one negative note: first grade is where the constant playtime of preschool and kindergarten is replaced by real studying and work. Haley has just started to show the signs of rebellion at this concept. Sometimes getting her to do her homework is a challenge. A bigger concern is that her schoolwork has started to come back to us covered in doodles. Believe me, I can relate. I'm sure more than one of my assignments as a kid were turned in with spaceships and robots on them. (Some of my work as an adult as well, but that's another issue.) But it concerns us that she is not paying attention in class because she is adding rainbows and flowers next to where she is supposed to be correcting verb tenses. Time will tell. I think we're raising a dreamer. (Not that that's necessarily a bad thing.)
Haley has also really rounded a corner in her swimming class. In one short summer, she has gone from being afraid to put her face in the water to doing underwater somersaults. She is also doing a fantastic job with her crawl stroke and backstroke. Despite the snow outside, we're going to continue to have her take lessons.
There you have it. Two wonderful kids who somehow manage to get more incredible every day.
