Is It Really Almost March?
The weathers already starting to grow warmer, birds are returning from their migrations, and Target has Cadbury chocolate eggs and marshmallow Peeps on display…
Which means that it’s the perfect time for me to blog about this past Christmas! Let’s see if I can remember back that far.
Kami and Gigi came out for a visit and spent some quality time with the girls. The only down point was a visit to the Urgent Care on Christmas Day because Haley had an ear infection. (For those keeping track, Haley and I spent Christmas Day in Urgent Care two years ago as well. For the exact same reason.)
Medical issues aside, this Christmas will go down as the one where Haley obsessed about getting a Chia Pet. She even asked Santa for it. Got to give St Nick credit, a lesser Santa might have cracked up laughing. The Santa at our mall took it all in stride. Since so much time has passed between Christmas morning and this blog, we’ve already grown our Chia Pet, watched it wither, and packed it away again. Haley enjoyed it when it was growing, but it performed about as admirably as most “As Seen On TV” products do. That is to say, our Chia Pet had many bald spots.
Zoe received from Santa a plush version of the Sesame Street monster that shares her name. She likes it, but for the time being it spends much of its time in the toy box, shunned in favor of a small stuffed frog that came with a McDonalds Happy Meal. (Tell me again why we buy things for this child?)
Early February saw the first big excursion for Nicole and I, sans kids. We went to Yosemite for the wedding of some close friends. We survived the three days without the girls and they did well under the supervision of Bunny and Grumpa. (According to the grandparents, the kids were “perfect angels”. I’m convinced that they’re confusing our children with someone else’s.)
Mid-February saw the arrival of Haley’s favorite holiday – Valentine’s Day! This year was no exception, with Haley making all 20+ valentines for her preschool classmates by hand (with a little help from mom). Haley also has, for lack of a better word, a “boyfriend”. She is particularly enamored of a boy named Joey in her class, and it would appear the feeling is mutual. He made her a special necklace for Valentines Day. In the words of my wife – “It's official, he’s given her jewelry!” I don’t think my lovely spouse realizes how much comments like this age me.
Zoe gets cuter every day, and her vocabulary grows exponentially. She often tells me “stories” about her day when I get home from work. Most of it sounds like jibberish, but I figure out a word here and there. She has also recently discovered TV, and already has a favorite video. When she wants to watch her Baby Einstein animal video, she points at the TV and makes animal sounds. I’m not sure there is anything cuter than a 1 year old impersonating an elephant in between wild gesticulations in the direction of the DVD player.
And there you have it… you are now caught up with the adventures of my brood. Hopefully it won’t be Thanksgiving by the time I post another update.
